Musical Theatre Jazz and Tap Instructor

StarStruck Theatre in Fremont, California is looking to hire a talented, upbeat, and friendly Tap & Jazz teacher for our Winter 2020 session of Intermediate/Advanced dance classes. StarStruck seeks a professional with a background in both teaching and dance; preferably an artist with training rooted in dance technique.

Dance instructor would be responsible for instructing two intermediate/advanced level musical theatre dance classes (usually about 15-20 students ages 10-16 per class) for our upcoming 12-week semester, with opportunities to teach additional classes and choreograph musical theatre summer camps or MainStage productions.

Immediately seeking instructor for the following classes:

  • Wednesdays, January 29th-April 22nd, 2020. (No class April 15)
  • Intermediate/Advanced Musical Theatre Jazz (Ages 10+): 5:45-6:45pm
  • Intermediate/Advanced Musical Theatre Tap (Ages 10+): 6:45-7:45pm

Applicants should have:

  • Experience working with children (ages 10+) in Musical Theatre style Tap & Jazz (at an intermediate/advanced level)
  • Experience choreographing tap and jazz routines to songs from the Musical Theatre repertoire.
  • A strong background and/or degree in Dance, Theatre, Theatre Education, or Musical Theatre
  • Instructor should have lots of energy, patience, and creativity!!!

StarStruck Theatre has been a Musical Theatre staple of the East Bay for 25 years. Our Education Department serves over 1000 students a year in more than 14 classes per week in acting, dance, musical theatre, and more. Camp Counselor Application for High School & College Students

What are we looking for?

Every summer, StarStruck hosts a 4-week camp for ages 9-14 and three 2-week camps for ages 7-11. We are looking for young adults (Age 16+) with a passion for theatre to join us as counselors, mentors, and tech crew.

Responsibilities:

We are looking for 3-5 counselors for each camp who love kids and have experience in theatre. You will be asked to:

  • Remind students of blocking and choreography
  • Lead theatre games
  • Assist in making props/set/costumes
  • Help students with their line memorization
  • Act as the tech crew for performances
  • Load-in and Load-out for the show

When is camp?

4- Week Summer Performance Camp

  • Monday-Friday, June 15-July 2nd: 10am-4pm,
  • No Camp July 3rd
  • July 6th-10th: 10am-5pm
  • Performances: 7/10 @ 7pm, 7/11 @ 2pm & 7pm, 7/12 @ 2pm
  • Note: You are required to be at all performances one to two hours early and are expected to help with strike after final performance.
  • Camp Counselors for this camp be in StarStruck’s Summer 2020 MainStage, Les Miserables.

2-week summer performance camp:

  • 2-week camps, M-F 10am-3pm, campers age 7-11
  • Session A: July 13th-July 25, 2020 Note: You are required to be at the Saturday Performances!
  • Session B: July 27th-August 8th Note: You are required to be at the Saturday performances!
  • Session C: August 10th-August 22nd Note: You are required to be at the Saturday performances!

Where is camp?

TBA 4-week camp – Rehearsals will be held at our Studio Space: 42307 Osgood Rd. Unit J, Fremont. We will meet at the Valhalla Theatre at Irvington High School for the last week of camp and performances.

TBA 2-week camps – Rehearsals and performances will be held at our Studio Space: 42307 Osgood Rd. Unit J, Fremont.

Is there compensation?

Counselors will receive a stipend at the end of camp. Alternatively, you may choose to receive volunteer hours instead. The StarStruck staff is always happy to write recommendations on your behalf, if required.
