StageStruck! (AGES 10-14) IN PERSON

2-week Performance Camps for Intermediate to Advanced

HAKUNA MATATA! We’re doing a show! After passing an audition/application, each group of StageStruck campers will work with Ms. Courtney and Ms. Nancy to safely rehearse and perform The Lion King Kids at the StarStruck Studio. With just 12 cast members, each camper will be vital to our story as we will create a socially distant and safe retelling of the story of The Lion King. Note: A small socially distant audience (one or two adults per camper) may be admitted for the final performance, but a final decision will be finalized at a later date, pending current CDC guidelines. If an audience cannot attend in person, we will film and share the final product. Guidelines may change per camp session.

Applications will be accepted via GoogleForms March 17 to March 29, 2021. Admission is not based on a first come first served basis, but rather at the discretion of the director and the requirements of the show. Please do not send money at this time- only the online registration form. You will be notified by March 31st of your child’s enrollment status. If accepted, you will be sent an access code to register on our website beginning Friday, April 2nd at 10am. Admitted students that have not enrolled online by Friday, April 9th may be replaced by a student from the waiting list.

***Students may only attend one 2-week camp, but we encourage you to apply to multiple camps in the event your 1st choice is full.***

Audition Video Guidelines
TO AUDITION, include a YouTube link with the following:

  • The performer should show us their personality with a short introduction stating their name, how old they will be in June, and a fun fact or short sentence about why being in the 2-week camp is important to them.
  • 30 seconds to 1 minute of a song you love to sing! Remember to act while you are singing
  • Please perform to a Karaoke/Accompaniment Track (no a cappella singing, no lead vocals singing along with you, please)
  • Please provide a YouTube link to ONE video containing your FULL audition.

Recording your video: The video should be a full body or waist up shot, with the actor looking AT the camera. Keep your full recording to 2-3 minutes max. Begin your video by stating your name, age, song, and interesting fact. Your song should be sung to either a backing karaoke track or piano. If you are having any difficulty finding a track to sing to, please let us know as we have several solutions to help.

All audition videos are due by Monday, March 29th at the latest. Please send them in sooner if you can.

Sending the video: The best method is to upload your audition video to YouTube as an UNLISTED video and marked “not for kids”. Then add the link to the GoogleForm. If you have a google account, you should have access to YouTube already. Please use your name + “StageStruck 2021” as the title of the video. (For example: “Lori Stokes- StageStruck 2021”) If you do not have access to a YouTube account, you may send the video as a standard email attachment to education.starstruck@gmail.com. Be sure to use your name + “StageStruck 2021” as the subject of the email. Most email clients will automatically upload the video to a cloud service so we can download it to view.

Conflicts

Performers are expected to attend every day of camp, including all tech rehearsals and performances. If your student will miss any part of the camp dates or times, please let us know on your audition application.

***Please be honest about any potential conflicts (including any late drop off/early pick-up) you may have during summer camp. Students with one or two conflicts CAN be admitted, as long as we're notified in your application. Unfortunately, due to the high number of camp applications that we usually receive, adding conflicts AFTER you're admitted to camp may result in your child losing their spot in camp.***

Camp Safety

We are so excited to welcome our students back to the studio this summer. All in person camps will adhere to current CDC and Alameda County guidelines as they undoubtedly shift. Our regular StarStruck staff is on track to be fully vaccinated by May, teachers/students will be masked at all times, with our roll up doors open, air purifiers on, and generous amounts of sanitizing! In the event that Alameda County numbers go back up, we will reach out to you, most likely with an online alternative. Should you have any questions or concerns, please email Courtney at Education.StarStruck@gmail.com

Meet the Staff

Courtney Stokes (Camp Director) has been with StarStruck since it was first founded in 1995. As a young performer, StarStruck is where she fell in love with theatre and created friendships that are still part of her life today. As a professional actress, Courtney has toured the world with Princess Cruises and The Tokyo Philharmonic Orchestra. Some favorite roles in the United States include The Bridges of Madison County at TheatreWorks, Avenue Q with Mason Street warehouse, and Footloose with Kansas City Starlight. As a teaching artist she has led an assortment of classes including Kids on Broadway, Mini Musical, and Advanced Musical Theatre Workshop. She has also co-directed many MainStage productions and Summer Performance Camps including The Lion King Jr., A Year with Frog and Toad Kids, Newsies, and Footloose.

Nancy Godfrey (Music Director) has had the pleasure of serving as musical director for all of StarStruck’s MainStage productions since 2003. Since retiring from being a full-time surgeon in 2018, Nancy has been able to join StarStruck for several classes and camps including The Lion King Jr, Cyber Summer Conservatory, Musical Theatre Workshop, and Prep Your Rep. Read Nancy’s full bio here.

Valerie Golobic (Camp Counselor, June 14-July 23) has been a performer at StarStruck for 6 years and is so excited to be a TA this summer! Some of her favorite roles she has played at StarStruck include Dorothy Gale in The Wizard of Oz, Niki Harris in Curtains, Elmer in Newsies, and Nala in The Lion King Jr.  She has helped with previous StarStruck classes and camps including Aladdin Jr, Frog and Toad Jr, and Kids on Broadway. She is not of age for the current COVID-19 vaccines, but she hopes to get one as soon as it is available to her age group. She is so excited for a fun, safe, and theatrical summer!

Gisele Lajavardi (Camp Counselor, June 14-August 4) has been an actor and TA with StarStruck for 9 years. Some of her favorite roles with StarStruck include Scarecrow in The Wizard of OZ, Buttons in Newsies, and most recently Fester in The Addams Family. As a TA/Counselor, she has assisted for Lion King Jr, You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown, Alice in Wonderland Jr., and Mini Musical and Kids on Broadway classes. She is very grateful to be fully vaccinated for our in-person summer camps.

Brian Loh (Camp Counselor, July 26-August 4) is really excited to be a part of the staff members at Starstruck, because he himself has been performing in Starstruck shows for the past 8 years. Some of his favorite roles include the Tin Man from the recent Wizard of Oz, Rafiki from the Lion King Jr. and Specs from Newsies. He has previously been a TA for Winnie the Pooh Kids and loves working with kids. He is not currently vaccinated as he is not 16 yet, but he does plan to be by June.
